Mosques in Bristol: a working directory for 2026

Bristol has somewhere between six and ten regularly-functioning mosques and Islamic prayer venues depending on how you count smaller community spaces. The list below covers the main mosques with regular Jumu'ah programs and established community presence. We update it twice a year (or whenever a mosque informs us their details have changed).

Important caveats: prayer times shift through the year with sunset, so check each mosque's own schedule before turning up. Some smaller mosques and university prayer rooms are not listed here - message us if you'd like one added.

Easton Jamia Masjid

Address: Easton, Bristol BS5

Tradition: South Asian Hanafi, mainstream.

Daily prayers: Yes - Fajr through Isha, schedule shifts seasonally with sunset.

Jumu'ah: Multiple services to accommodate working community. Typically 13:30 in winter, 14:30 in summer, with a second service for those with later schedules.

Women's facilities: Yes - separate prayer hall.

Madrasa: Yes - children's Quran and Islamic studies programs, evenings and weekends.

Khutbah language: Arabic + Urdu mostly, with English at some services.

Parking: Limited; arrive early on Jumu'ah and Eid. Street parking surrounding.

Notes: The largest and most established mosque in Bristol. Has been a community anchor for decades. Hosts Ramadan iftar programs, runs significant charitable activity, and is a primary venue for Bristol Muslim community events.

Bristol Jamia (Wells Road / Totterdown area)

Address: Wells Road / Totterdown, Bristol BS4

Tradition: South Asian, mainstream.

Daily prayers: Yes.

Jumu'ah: One or two services depending on time of year; typical winter time around 13:00, summer around 14:00.

Women's facilities: Yes.

Madrasa: Yes - weekend program.

Khutbah language: Arabic + Urdu primarily.

Parking: Limited; street parking around. Public transport via bus.

Notes: Major mosque serving south Bristol's Muslim community. Established presence in the Totterdown / Wells Road corridor. Significant Ramadan and Eid programs.

Totterdown Mosque

Address: Totterdown, Bristol BS4

Tradition: Community mosque, mainstream Sunni.

Daily prayers: Yes.

Jumu'ah: One service.

Women's facilities: Available, may be smaller than the main mosques.

Madrasa: Yes - community program.

Khutbah language: Arabic + community-relevant.

Parking: Limited.

Notes: Serves the local Totterdown Muslim community. Smaller scale than Bristol Jamia but well-attended and an integral part of the south Bristol community.

Bristol Central Mosque (Brunswick Square area)

Address: Brunswick Square area, Bristol BS2

Tradition: Mixed - serves a diverse central Bristol congregation.

Daily prayers: Yes - convenient for central Bristol workers and students.

Jumu'ah: Typically two services on Friday to accommodate working hours.

Women's facilities: Yes.

Khutbah language: Often English + Arabic; some Arabic-only services.

Parking: Very limited - central location, use public transport or walk.

Notes: Central location near the city centre makes this a popular choice for workers and students from across Bristol. The university community attends regularly.

Easton Community Centre (event venue)

Address: Easton, Bristol BS5

Use: Not a mosque per se, but hosts the major Eid congregation for Bristol's Muslim community. Capacity for 2,000+ worshippers. Used for community events year-round.

Eid prayer: Yes - typically the largest Bristol Eid prayer.

Other prayer venues

  • University of Bristol Islamic Society - student prayer space, typically near the Senate House / University Road area. Jumu'ah held during term time.
  • UWE Bristol Islamic Society - student prayer space on UWE campus.
  • Smaller community mosques - several smaller mosques and prayer rooms exist across Bristol serving specific communities (e.g. Bangladeshi, Somali, Yemeni). These often operate from converted houses or community spaces. We list these when we have confirmed current details - contact us if your mosque should be on the list.

How to choose a mosque

A few considerations for new arrivals:

Proximity. The mosque nearest your home or work is usually the right answer for daily prayers - the friction of a long trip cuts your prayer consistency.

Khutbah language. If you prefer English khutbah, mosques with student communities (Central Mosque, university prayer rooms) tend to offer this. South Asian community mosques typically khutbah in Urdu and Arabic.

Madrasa for children. If you have children, the mosque with a madrasa near you matters more than any other consideration.

Community fit. Bristol's mosques each have a slightly different community profile. Visit a few Jumu'ahs before committing.

Women's facilities. All mosques listed above have women's prayer space, but the size and quality varies. Visit before committing to be sure the facilities meet your family's needs.

Eid prayer

For the major Eid congregation (both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha), Bristol's central event is held at Easton Community Centre in most years, organised collectively by the major mosques. This draws 2,000+ worshippers. Most major mosques also hold their own Eid congregation on the same morning at the mosque itself.

Timing: typically starts ~9:00am. Arrive 30-45 minutes early for the central event - parking and seating fills fast.

Ramadan at Bristol mosques

During Ramadan, most major Bristol mosques run:

  • Tarawih prayers after Isha - typically 20:00-22:00 depending on time of year. Easton Jamia and Bristol Jamia have the largest tarawih programs.
  • Iftar at the mosque - varies by mosque and night. Some mosques host iftar every night; others on Fridays only; others sporadically. Most are open to all who attend.
  • Quran khatm programs for those wanting to complete a full Quran recitation during the month.
  • Charitable collections - significant during Ramadan for local food banks, international causes, and orphan sponsorships.
