A 650g pack of frozen chicken samosas: a spiced chicken filling wrapped in thin pastry and folded into triangles. They go from freezer to fryer or oven with no preparation, which is why so many households keep a bag in reserve for guests, iftar and unexpected visitors. Samosas are a fixture of the Ramadan iftar table in Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Somali homes, where they are known as sambuusa, usually eaten after dates and before the main meal.
